5.8″ iPhone in 2017 will have Samsung’s AMOLED panels

Rumor mill suggests 3 sizes of iPhone in 2017 (4.7", 5.5" and 5.8")


iPhone rumors never die. A new report from Taiwan based Digitimes suggests that Samsung Display will become the exclusive supplier of AMOLED panels for the 2017 iPhones. Samsung Display will be able to supply a maximum of 20 million units a month. As per Digitimes’ sources, Apple will launch 4.7, 5.5 and 5.8 models in 2017. The first 2 models will used TFT-LCD while the 5.8 inch will use AMOLED screen. The website further adds that Global shipments of the 5.8″ AMOLED iPhone in 2017 are expected at 60-70 million units.


Japan based Nissha printing will supply touch sensors for use in AMOLED panels. Either Samsung display or Taiwan based TPK holding and General interface solution might carry out the bonding of touch sensors and AMOLED panels.


The website further said that the production of the new iPhone could begin in small volumes as early as March 2017.  An output increase is likely in May-June period.
